Who is agreeing with whom

On one side, you. On the other, Eduard Abdullin, an independent developer enrolled in the Apple Developer Program as an individual — “we” from here on.

The app is delivered through the App Store, and Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement for licensed applications applies to it. These terms are in addition to it. Apple is not a party to our agreement and is not responsible for the app or its content, but it may rely on this agreement as a third party for whose benefit it is made.

By installing the app or leaving your address on the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use Pagetime — that is the only consequence.

Who may use it

Pagetime is meant for people aged sixteen and over. If you are younger, use it only with a parent’s or guardian’s knowledge and consent — and it is that adult who is answerable for any purchase.

You need an iPhone with iOS 17 or newer. An app for Android is being made; until it is released, these terms cover the app for iPhone only.

Your account

Reading, timing and writing thoughts down work with no account at all. Signing in is needed for sync and goes through your Apple Account on iPhone or your Google account on Android: there is no password of ours to guess and none to lose.

One account per person. You are answerable for what happens from your signed-in device. If a phone is lost or stolen, sign in on another phone with the same account and choose Settings, the Account section, Sign out on all devices. This ends the sign-in on every device, the lost one included.

You can delete the account at any moment, in the app’s settings. The server is wiped at once; everything written on the phone stays with you.

What is free and what is not

Free, and staying free: the timer and the Live Activity, up to five books across all shelves, the daily goal, the streak and the calendar, thoughts, quotes and ideas, twenty page photos with text recognition in total on this device and, once you sign in, across your account, statistics for the current and the previous calendar month, the widgets and exporting your notes to a file. All of it runs on the phone, works offline and needs no account. Sync between your own devices is free as well; it only needs you to sign in. Without a subscription, an account holds up to five books across all shelves, so a book added beyond that on another iPhone or offline stays only on the phone where it was added until you subscribe or delete another book.

A subscription removes the limits on books and page scans and opens statistics from before the previous calendar month, the year in review and export to a folder, which keeps your notes as Markdown files in a folder you choose.

AI is disabled in the current app, including for subscribers. Earlier versions previously offered the first twenty AI answers and one monthly recap free, once per Apple ID. New AI generation is now disabled on the server for those versions as well; saved conversations remain readable.

The subscription

The subscription is bought in the App Store, by the month or by the year. The App Store names the price in your currency, and it is visible before the purchase.

If you have never had a Pagetime subscription, the yearly one starts with a free month; Apple decides who qualifies. Unless you cancel at least a day before the free month ends, the App Store then charges the yearly price.

It renews itself until it is cancelled. You cancel it in the App Store settings, at least a day before the paid period ends, and everything keeps working until that end.

Apple takes the money and Apple refunds it, by its own rules; we have neither your card nor any way to return a payment. If Apple tells us about a refund, the subscription closes immediately.

When the subscription ends, your library, reading time and notes stay on the phone, and sync keeps working; notes that already have a page photo keep it. Adding books stops while your library has five or more books. Page scanning stops once the twenty free scans in total have been used; deleting notes does not restore scans. Statistics from before the previous calendar month, the year in review and folder export require a new subscription.

Historical AI limits: AI answers had a daily cap. It protects the service from scripts and abuse and is set so that an ordinary reader never reaches it; with a subscription it is higher than without one. Only answers count toward it: a request that fails on our side or comes back empty does not. While AI was enabled, the app reported reaching the cap and the daily count reset at local midnight. We may raise the cap at any time. We will not lower it for a running subscription in a way that an ordinary reader would notice without telling you in advance — and you can then cancel.

Historical AI limits: the AI also had a monthly cap. It is measured by what the AI requests made for you cost to run, not by their number, and it is set so that an ordinary reader never reaches it. Every request counts toward it, including one that fails or comes back empty: those are paid for too. The month is the calendar month in your local time. While AI was enabled, the app reported reaching the cap and the monthly count reset on the first day of the next month. These historical limits do not enable AI in the current service. The same promise holds as for the daily cap: we may raise it at any time, and we will not lower it for a running subscription in a way that an ordinary reader would notice without telling you in advance — and you can then cancel.

Tips

In the app you can also leave a tip. Tips are voluntary: they unlock nothing and change nothing in the app, and they are a thank-you, nothing more.

Your notes stay yours

You keep the rights you have in your own writing and photos. We do not claim ownership of them, use your notes to train models or publish them.

Quoted text, translations and other material created by someone else remain subject to their respective rights. Photographing or saving a page does not transfer those rights to you. You are responsible for having permission or another legal basis for the way you use that material.

So that the app can work, you allow us exactly what is needed: to keep your notes on the server, to carry them between your own devices. AI is disabled, so current versions do not send your notes to a model. Nothing beyond that.

What is in your notes is on you. Do not put other people’s secrets there, or anything the law forbids.

Saved AI answers from earlier versions

AI is disabled for everyone. Saved answers from earlier versions were written by a language model, not by a person or an editor. It gets things wrong, invents details and states the untrue with confidence — check anything that matters against the book.

An AI answer is not advice from a doctor, a lawyer or a financial adviser, and no decision should rest on it. An old saved answer does not mean that new AI requests are available.

Earlier AI requests could include your book details and notes, as described in the privacy policy. Current versions do not offer these requests, and a subscription does not enable them.

What you may not do

• Break the server, get around the limits, or reach the API with a script instead of the app.
• Try to get at someone else’s data or pass yourself off as another person.
• Take the app apart to build your own out of it — as far as the law forbids that.
• Put anything unlawful or infringing into your notes, or ask the AI to help with it.

Blocking

We may limit or close access if these rules are disregarded to the point where the service or other readers suffer. Where it does not look deliberate, we will write to you first.

A blocked account can still be deleted: sign in, then Settings, the Account section, Delete Account.

If we close your access through no fault of yours, write to us. We will help you get back the paid and unused part of the subscription, but the refund itself is Apple’s to make: we have no access to payments.

How the service runs

Pagetime is made by one person. The server can be down, an update can be late, and a feature can disappear if there is nothing to keep it alive with. Round-the-clock service is not something we promise.

The good news is in how the app is built: the tracker, the notes and the statistics live on the phone and survive any server outage. Sync needs a working server; AI is disabled for everyone.

These terms may change. Substantial changes will be announced in the app in advance; if the new terms do not suit you, delete your account — that is how you decline.

Liability

The app is provided as it is. We are answerable for intent and gross negligence and for harm to life and health, as the law requires; beyond that, liability is limited to what you paid for the subscription over the last year.

We are not answerable for lost profit, for a model answering wrongly, or for data lost when the only copy was on a lost phone and sync had never been switched on.

None of this takes away the rights consumer law gives you where you live: those are stronger than any clause here.

Law and disputes

The agreement is governed by the law of the country where the developer lives — but if you are a consumer, the rights and the courts of your own country stay with you, and this clause does not narrow them.

Writing first is better: hello@pagetime.net. Almost everything that looks like a dispute turns out to be a misunderstanding that is fixed in a letter.

These documents — this one, the privacy policy and the support page — are published in English only. The app and the site speak seven languages; the documents do not, so that there is never a question of which wording counts.
